LIRA : birth of a new astronomy and astrophysics laboratory
LIRA (Laboratory for Astrophysics Research and Instrumentation) is one of the three scientific departments of the Observatoire de Paris-PSL, a major institution bringing together a quarter of the country’s forces in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. With almost 300 members, LIRA is one of the largest research laboratories in France in this field.

LIRA, a CNRS joint research unit at Paris Observatory, is a laboratory of excellence in astrophysics and instrumentation. It studies astrophysical objects, from the Solar System to our Galaxy and beyond, through five thematic areas. Through international collaboration and instrumental innovation, it pushes back the frontiers of science and contributes to the training and dissemination of knowledge.
