After working for many years at the observatory’s accounting office, Bernadette wanted to move closer to the laboratories in the 1990s. We were delighted to welcome her to the Solar Physics Laboratory in Meudon. Bernadette took on administrative responsibilities not only for this laboratory but also for the Department of Solar and Planetary Astronomy (DASOP), which housed a second laboratory, the Solar Radio Astronomy Laboratory. When the observatory was restructured in 2002 (incorporating most of DASOP into LESIA), Bernadette joined the LESIA administration team. In these roles, Bernadette’s skills were greatly appreciated by all.
Bernadette was also very involved in the community life of our institution, both on the Board of Directors and at CESOP.
During all her years at the observatory, Bernadette demonstrated what we believe best characterises her : a keen interest in people, complemented by her kindness, her ability to listen and, above all, her great discretion. This is how she was able to forge lasting friendships with many of us over the years. Bernadette retired in September 2003 and returned to her native Corrèze.
We extend our deepest sympathy to her daughter Céline and her family.
